Title Developing Conceptual Understanding in Upper Elementary Mathematics using Authentic Problem-Solving Tasks
Description

Proficiency in mathematics can only be achieved through conceptual understanding. Mathematics concepts at the upper elementary years, are often presented in abstraction from the real-life contexts that justify the need for teaching them. This module aims at exposing teachers to the engagement of "problem-solving" tasks that foster a deep understanding of fractions, proportionality and measurement. By improving the authenticity of these tasks, teachers will guide their students to observing everyday life problem-solving situations with a mathematical eye.
