Title Delivering Mathematics in an Inclusive Classroom: The Power of Manipulatives
Description

Teachers are often confronted with a differentiation dilemma: “How do I teach the same mathematics lesson to students with different learning needs and abilities?” By reformulating this dilemma into a set of concrete learning questions, this module will address the need for differentiation in the upper elementary and middle school years with the use of physical, pictorial and virtual manipulatives. Participants will be sharing samples of classroom interactive approaches to teaching that address key cognitive developments including the manipulation of fractions, order of operations, geometrical proofs and algebraic simplifications.
