Restorative vs Traditional Discipline Practices

Help students take ownership of their behavior and contribute to a healthier school. Schools have held onto traditional discipline systems, citing its efficiency and past performance. It doesn’t seem to be working. Restorative practices allow students to see discipline in a way that improves relationships in the school, addresses the whole child, and helps the student develop holistically through the process. Participants will reflect on common practices in their context and the effectiveness of those practices. We will then distinguish between the philosophy of traditional discipline practices and restorative practices. Further, participants will be able to explore multiple resources related to community circles and restorative practices in order to apply those resources to their context.
