An Intro to Understanding by Design

Participants will... explore the logic of “backward design” - a 3-stage model for the development of a well-aligned curriculum; apply criteria for selecting curriculum priorities and determining the “big ideas” worthy of deep understanding; use essential questions to frame curriculum and focus on “big ideas”; review practical tools for designing authentic performance tasks; examine the A.M.T. model for teaching for understanding and transfer; and explore a variety of excellent web-based resources for UbD.
