Curriculum Studies

The University of Bath, UK, offers an opportunity to participate in the University’s MA Education or Postgraduate Certificate in International Education (PGCiE) programmes. The MA
Education programme comprises five units and a dissertation, while the PGCiE is awarded for successful completion of two specified MA units, followed by an Educational Enquiry unit (please
check http://go.bath.ac.uk/pgcie for detailed PGCiE requirements with respect to unit choice). Units will be taught to mixed groups of those working towards the MA
Education and those working towards the PGCiE. Each taught unit is followed by individual study and the submission of a 5,000 word written assignment; the PGCiE Educational Enquiry unit is
based on independent study leading to completion of a 3,000 word written assignment.

In May 2023 the Curriculum Studies unit will be offered via MS Teams to a group of teachers/educators based in Qatar. The unit, which is relevant to teachers of all age ranges (and to
those registered on either the MA Education or the PGCiE programme), explores a number of issues including fundamental principles and perspectives on curriculum content, organisation and
design; critical examination of a number of curriculum models (including the International Baccalaureate) and factors that impact upon curriculum change. Evaluation of the curriculum will
also be considered.

The unit sessions will be taught via MS Teams over two weekends as follows (all timings are Qatar time):

Date Time
Friday, 19 May 2023 11:00-14:00 and 15:00-18:00
Saturday, 20 May 2023 11:00-14:00 and 15:00-18:00
Friday, 26 May 2023 11:00-14:00 and 15:00-18:00
Saturday, 27 May 2023 11:00-14:00 and 15:00-18:00

Please note that, while the unit is principally intended for those based in Qatar, others may also enroll if they are registered on the MA Education or PGCiE programme, and if they are
able to participate via MS Teams in the sessions according to the schedule above.

Participants who are working towards the MA Education (but not those working towards the PGCiE) may if they wish use the Masters level credits gained by successful completion of this unit
towards the

International Baccalaureate Educator Certificates:

The fee for this 12 credit unit will be £1,390 payable in pounds sterling in advance. You may pay using a variety of methods, including pounds sterling cheque, debit/credit
card, or bank transfer. Please note that payment will only be required once you receive an invoice,

which will provide details of how payment may be made via these different options. An administrative charge of £55 will also be included in the invoice. Queries related to the MA Education
or PGCiE may be addressed to: studycentres-ma@bath.ac.uk Queries related to the Education Development Institute may be addressed to edi_uni_progs@qf.org.qa

Important Reminder:

Please note that if a viable group size has not been reached once the deadline for applications has passed (see below) the unit may be postponed.

Please do not make any arrangements until you receive confirmation that the unit is definitely going ahead.

Why study an MA/PGCiE unit at a University of Bath Study Centre?

The Department of Education at the University of Bath offers students a number of ways of working towards the qualifications of MA Education and PGCiE. Normally this would include the
possibility of studying by distance learning (individual study online), attending our popular Summer School (June/July, in Bath) and/or participating in one of our successful Study Centres
around the world. Prior to Covid-19 the Study Centre mode was based on units taught by a visiting University of Bath tutor; currently virtual Study Centres enable local and international
educators to share their experiences and learn together online, working with other teachers and educators in an intensive learning environment with the guidance and support of an
experienced University of Bath tutor.
